Titanium is about 44% lighter than steel (4.43 g/cm³ against 7.85 g/cm³). Grade 5 is as strong as 10.9 alloy steel. It does not rust, resists sea water and most chemicals, and is non-magnetic.
Grade 2 (commercially pure) is chosen for corrosion: sea water, chlorine, bleach and chemical plants. Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V) is chosen for strength-to-weight: motorsport, aerospace, marine and high-end cycles. Other grades are supplied for special corrosion or medical needs.
Titanium threads can gall (seize). Use an anti-seize compound on assembly, especially with titanium nuts on titanium bolts.
Standard titanium fasteners in Grade 2 and Grade 5 are available in India from us. Other grades and large sizes are imported or made to drawing.
